Russia stocks higher at close of trade; MICEX up 2.26%

Investing.com – Russia stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Power sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Moscow, the MICEX gained 2.26% to hit a new 5-year high.

The best performers of the session on the MICEX were AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p), which rose 4.85% or 8000 points to trade at 173000 at the close. Meanwhile, Lukoil (MCX:LKOH) added 4.44% or 112.8 points to end at 2652.8 and Gruppa LSR PAO (MCX:LSRG) was up 4.20% or 26.5 points to 657.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were MMC Norilsk Nickel (MCX:GMKN), which fell 1.64% or 158.0 points to trade at 9492.0 at the close. Aeroflot (MCX:AFLT) declined 0.59% or 0.34 points to end at 57.52 and Inter rao ees (MCX:IRAO) was down 0.41% or 0.0050 points to 1.2000.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Moscow Stock Exchange by 122 to 93 and 3 ended unchanged.

Shares in AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p) rose to all time highs; gaining 4.85% or 8000 to 173000.

The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 1.17% to 36.430.

Gold for December delivery was down 0.69% or 7.40 to $1068.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.81% or 0.34 to hit $42.24 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.69% or 0.76 to trade at $45.41 a barrel.

USD/RUB was up 1.62% to 65.713, while EUR/RUB rose 1.20% to 69.575.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 99.89.
