Around 18 companies are still violating a Jan 17,
2010 directive by the capital market regulators which requires them to
publish detailed quarterly financial statements on their websites.
A bdnews24.com probe found that the companies do not even have their own websites.
The Securities and Exchange Commission's order reads: "The listed companies are (at present) publishing quarterly financial statements in newspapers in a very concise form, without showing details of some vital components of financial statements, such as detailed sources of income.".
These information, the SEC observed, are "crucial for investors to make knowledgeable investment decisions".
Subsequently on March 11 last year, the SEC ordered the twin stock exchanges to monitor and ensure posting of detailed quarterly financial statements of listed companies on their websites.
"Both stock exchanges shall simultaneously post the detailed quarterly financial statements on their respective websites (through installation of web link)," the SEC order says.
However, three companies from the textile sector, Al-Haj Textile, Tallu Spinning, Delta Spinners Limited were found to have no websites. The other companies in the list are tannery sector's Legacy Footwear, pharmaceuticals company Libra Infusions Limited.
Three others are from the miscellaneous sector Miracle Industries, GQ Ball Pen and Usmania Glass .
Purabi General Insurance is the sole company from the insurance sector. Eastern Lubricants from the fuel and power sector, Renwick Jaineswar & Co (BD) from the engineering sector and Northern Jute Manufacturing Company Limited from the jute sector.
The remaining six are all from the food and allied sector – National Tea, Shyampur Sugar Mills Limited, Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills Limited, Bangas, Meghna Condensed Milk and Meghna Pet Industries.
