The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has assured the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) of considering the reform proposals the premier bourse of the country earlier submitted to the regulator in a bid to stabilise the volatile stock market.

"The SEC told us that the regulator would consider our reform proposals after a broader scrutiny into them," DSE President Rakibur Rahman said at a press briefing after their meeting with the securities regulator Wednesday.

Mr Rakibur said the DSE was working hard to develop a more transparent, accountable and stable stock market and the DSE management had prepared the series of reform proposals based on their long experiences and the analyses on world markets.

"We believe the reforms will help ensure good governance, more transparency and accountability in issuers' activities, restore investor confidence and help bring long-term stability in the market," said Mr Rakibur.

A DSE team led by its President Rakibur Rahman sat with the SEC to discuss the reform proposals, submitted earlier.

DSE Senior Vice-President Ahmed Rashid, Vice President Md Shahjahan, Chief Executive Officer Musharraf M. Hussain and Chief Financial Officer Suvra Kanti Chowdhury were present during the meeting with the regulator.

Mr Rahman also said that the DSE was going to install Bangla software before February 21 next alongside the English version to provide easier services to the investors.

He also said that the DSE would also introduce a new share price index in December next.

"To strengthen market monitoring efforts, the DSE has already got connected with the SEC's surveillance software and completed the mock test successfully," he added.

The DSE president urged the regulator and investors to scan the records of the people handling company operation as the success of a company depends on the person who operates it.
