The bourses extended their winning streak for the fifth session Sunday with rising turnover as investors continued further fresh positioning in the market, boosted by positive expectations.
With expectations staying largely positive, stocks went upward as session started and the General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 4,162.80 points, gaining 62.29 points or 1.51 per cent, peaked since February 24, 2013.
The other two indices also posted significant gains --- the DSEX went up by 65.17 points or 1.68 per cent to close at 3,943.24 while the blue chip index DS30 rose 19.04 points or 1.33 per cent to close at 1,445.78 points.
Overall, turnover improved further to Tk 4.76 billion, an increase of 2.14 per cent over the previous session's value of Tk 4.66 billion.
"Budgetary expectations continued to stay at the heart of sentiment drivers, while short-term oriented investors also seemed to participate strongly. Especially, expectations over allowing investment of undisclosed money seemed to influence market sentiment significantly," commented IDLC Investments, in its daily market analysis.
Meanwhile, as positivity extends to fifth sessions at a stretch, profit taking bolstered amid cautious investors. Thus, amid exuberant participation, turnover remained above Tk 4.70 billion level, said the merchant bank.
"The key benchmarks surged ahead as investors kept pouring money into the market. Active participation of investors is reflected into the rising volume trend," stated LankaBangla Securities.
"This trend is the continuation of the market rally which started from the begging of May 2013," said the stock broker.
"The uptrend continued further as investors went for buying spree anticipating capital market friendly budget. The optimism got further supports from recent refinancing proposal from the central bank," said a merchant banker.
