Bourse witnesses dull trading

FE Report

After previous session's uptrend, market again went back to red with turnover remain sluggish amid lack of fresh positioning and re-positioning ahead of Eid festival.

"As only four trading sessions will be held before Eid vacation, investors were reluctant to take fresh positioning," brokers said.

The trading and official activities of both bourses will remain closed from August 6 to August 11, 2013 for 'Eid-ul-Fitr' holidays.

The General Index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DGEN) ended at 4,311.24 points, losing 18.24 points or 0.42 per cent from previous session.

The benchmark index, DSEX went down by 17.92 points or 0.45 per cent to close at 3,957.20 points while the blue chip index DS30 declined 9.47 points or 0.63 per cent to close at 1,461.15 points.

The market participation at DSE remained sluggish as the total turnover stood at Tk 3.44 billion, which was 0.5 per cent lower than the previous day's value.

"As neither of the demand and supply forces could dominate during the day's session, market maintained a horizontal line. As a result, the bourse ended almost flat,' commented IDLC Investments, in its regular market analysis.

"Lack of fresh positioning and re-positioning kept the participation sluggish with average turnover of Tk 3.78 billion for the last seven consecutive sessions," said the merchant bank.

Meanwhile, investors were upholding their judgment to be much more careful in respect of their day-to-day trading as they were observing turnaround situation, the IDLC analysis said.

Besides, sector wise movements were practical ahead of half-yearly declarations in recent times, the merchant bank added.

"The market saw a sober decline as investors are looking for a consolidation after a rally and subsequent fall," stated LankaBangla Securities. Activities, however, increased in the prime bourse. A total of 0.082 million trades were executed with 71.39 million securities of trading volume.
