BSEC likely to allow share netting facility for same security soon

The securities regulator is likely to allow share netting facility for the same listed company soon, officials said.

The latest move is aimed at improving the poor turnover of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE).

The DSE turnover hovers below Tk 2.0 billion mark since December 11.

Market operators blamed the introduction of new automated trading system behind the sharp fall of turnover.

Dhaka Stock Exchange on December 11 announced that it has gone live with its new automated trading system, incorporating DSE X-Stream INET Matching Engine powered by NASDAQ technology.

Sources of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Monday said the proposal of share netting facility for same security can be approved in the commission meeting scheduled be held tomorrow (December 31).

As per existing netting facility, investors are allowed to purchase the shares of a company by selling out the shares of another company.

After the introduction of netting facility for same security, investors will be able to sell and purchase the shares of same securities in a session.

The regulatory move came following the proposals made by both the bourses.

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) submitted the proposal of share netting facility for same security on Monday whereas the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) submitted the proposal in August last.

The official sources said the securities regulator showed positive expression while talking about the issue with the premier bourse authority.
