Germany stocks higher at close of trade; DAX up 2.28%


Germany stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Basic Resources and Construction sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX gained 2.28%, while the MDAX index added 1.50%, and the TecDAX index climbed 1.39%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG), which rose 6.73% or 1.185 points to trade at 18.795 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) added 6.02% or 0.680 points to end at 11.985 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was up 5.49% or 0.466 points to 8.951 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Muench. Rueckvers. VNA O.N. (DE:MUVGn), which rose 0.77% or 1.400 points to trade at 184.200 at the close. Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG) added 0.77% or 0.110 points to end at 14.480 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) was up 1.05% or 0.140 points to 13.475.

The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which rose 4.88% to 23.095, Kloeckner & Co SE NA (DE:KCOGn) which was up 4.81% to settle at 8.033 and Osram Licht (DE:OSRn) which gained 3.75% to close at 39.961.
The worst performers were MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn) which was down 0.35% to 89.360 in late trade, Kabel Deutschland Holding AG O.N. (DE:KD8Gn) which lost 0.13% to settle at 114.900 and Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (DE:WING) which was up 0.26% to 46.200 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which rose 5.74% to 4.220, Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which was up 2.62% to settle at 56.690 and Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which gained 2.47% to close at 31.130.

The worst performers were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 0.65% to 229.100 in late trade, LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which lost 0.46% to settle at 7.339 and Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (DE:AFXG) which was down 0.40% to 28.815 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 558 to 130 and 32 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 8.91% to 19.73 a new 1-month low.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.46% or 4.90 to $1069.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 4.21% or 1.52 to hit $37.66 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 3.36% or 1.22 to trade at $37.33 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.73% to 1.0877, while EUR/GBP fell 0.99% to 0.7316.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.41% at 98.61.
