At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.05%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.17%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Limited (NS:BAJA), which rose 1.52% or 37.90 points to trade at 2530.45 at the close. Meanwhile, ACC Ltd (NS:ACC) added 1.47% or 19.60 points to end at 1350.45 and Ambuja Cements Ltd. (NS:ABUJ) was up 1.41% or 2.85 points to 205.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL), which fell 1.69% or 2.90 points to trade at 168.55 at the close. HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) declined 1.52% or 13.20 points to end at 854.50 and Coal India Limited (NS:COAL) was down 1.15% or 3.75 points to 321.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which rose 1.76% to 2531.15, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 1.70% to settle at 1268.00 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 1.31% to close at 335.50.
The worst performers were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 1.75% to 168.65 in late trade, Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which lost 1.15% to settle at 321.40 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 0.88% to 858.25 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 882 to 581 and 7 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 443 fell and 334 advanced, while 16 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.11% to 14.2425.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.02% or 0.20 to $1068.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.37% or 0.14 to hit $36.95 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.44% or 0.16 to trade at $36.78 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.33% to 66.385, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 72.8210.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 98.05.
