Japan stocks higher at close of trade; Nikkei 225 up 0.58%


Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Banking, Pharmaceutical Industry and Fishery sectors led shares higher.



At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.58%.


The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681), which rose 7.04% or 40.0 points to trade at 608.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd.


(T:1332) added 6.07% or 39.0 points to end at 682.0 and Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) was up 4.81% or 41.0 points to 893.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002), which fell 1.89% or 19.0 points to trade at 988.0 at the close. Nippon Soda Co., Ltd. (T:4041) declined 1.64% or 12.0 points to end at 721.0 and Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) was down 1.54% or 5.0 points to 319.0.


Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1566 to 309.


Shares in Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 7.04% or 40.0 to 608.0. Shares in Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 6.07% or 39.0 to 682.0.


The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.33% to 19.18 a new 3-months low.

Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.34% or 0.12 to $36.94 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.41% or 0.15 to hit $36.69 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.45% or 4.80 to trade at $1073.10 a troy ounce.


USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 120.36, while EUR/JPY fell 0.03% to 132.06.


The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 97.97.
