Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 4.28%

Germany stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Utilities, Insurance and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 4.28%, while the MDAX index lost 2.50%, and the TecDAX index lost 2.03%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which fell 0.62% or 0.090 points to trade at 14.475 at the close. Meanwhile, Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) fell 1.85% or 1.400 points to end at 74.220 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) was down 2.24% or 0.214 points to 9.358 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which fell 7.09% or 0.830 points to trade at 10.880 at the close. E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) declined 6.11% or 0.546 points to end at 8.385 and Bay.Motoren Werke AG ST (DE:BMWG) was down 5.51% or 5.380 points to 92.250.
The top performers on the MDAX were Tag Immobilien AG (DE:TEGG) which rose 0.61% to 11.570, Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (DE:WING) which was down 0.27% to settle at 46.250 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which lost 0.51% to close at 22.610.

The worst performers were Duerr AG O.N. (DE:DUEG) which was down 6.51% to 68.810 in late trade, Metro AG ST O.N. (DE:MEOG) which lost 5.07% to settle at 28.060 and Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which was down 4.17% to 34.925 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (DE:PSAGn) which rose 6.09% to 13.685, SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was up 1.80% to settle at 52.650 and Bechtle AG O.N. (DE:BC8G) which gained 1.59% to close at 89.460.
The worst performers were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was down 4.36% to 10.635 in late trade, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which lost 4.33% to settle at 230.050 and Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which was down 4.31% to 3.950 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 595 to 108 and 32 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 19.21% to 25.20.

Gold for February delivery was up 1.36% or 14.40 to $1074.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.32% or 0.49 to hit $36.55 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.68% or 0.26 to trade at $37.02 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.47% to 1.0804, while EUR/GBP fell 0.16% to 0.7354.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.37% at 99.14.
