Germany stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Construction and Telecoms sectors led shares higher while losses in the Basic Resources, Food & Beverages and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.59%, while the MDAX index lost 0.26%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.44%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG), which rose 4.17% or 3.260 points to trade at 81.350 at the close. Meanwhile, Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn) added 3.36% or 2.570 points to end at 79.010 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) was up 2.86% or 0.268 points to 9.637 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Siemens AG NA (DE:SIEGn), which fell 2.35% or 2.130 points to trade at 88.470 at the close. Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) declined 2.12% or 0.325 points to end at 15.025 and BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) was down 1.82% or 1.130 points to 60.950.
The top performers on the MDAX were Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) which rose 2.86% to 63.260, Osram Licht (DE:OSRn) which was up 2.68% to settle at 39.982 and Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which gained 2.12% to close at 73.160.
The worst performers were Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was down 8.33% to 41.250 in late trade, Gerry Weber Internat.O.N. (DE:GWIG) which lost 4.78% to settle at 12.540 and Tag Immobilien AG (DE:TEGG) which was down 3.60% to 10.445 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which rose 5.76% to 51.840, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was up 4.27% to settle at 236.900 and STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which gained 2.61% to close at 53.520.
The worst performers were Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was down 3.73% to 8.773 in late trade, Jenoptik AG O.N. (DE:JENG) which lost 3.49% to settle at 12.855 and QSC AG NA O.N. (DE:QSCG) which was down 2.94% to 1.486 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 350 to 315 and 49 ended unchanged.
Shares in Rheinmetall AG (DE:RHMG) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 2.86% or 1.760 to 63.260. Shares in Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) fell to 52-week lows; falling 8.33% or 3.750 to 41.250.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 3.15% to 25.54.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.29% or 3.30 to $1116.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 3.55% or 1.11 to hit $32.56 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 4.42% or 1.44 to trade at $34.01 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.03% to 1.0868, while EUR/GBP rose 0.70% to 0.7627.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.09% at 99.16.
