U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains
in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Mobile Telecommunications
sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100
rose 0.71%.
The best performers of the session on the United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which rose 3.51% or 2.9900
points to trade at 88.2600 at the close. Meanwhile, Travis Perkins PLC (L:TPK)
added 2.89% or 56.00 points to end at 1992.00 and International Consolidated
Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) was up 2.52% or 15.00 points to 611.00 in late
trade.
The worst performers of the session were J Sainsbury PLC
(L:SBRY), which fell 5.17% or 13.200 points to trade at 242.100 at the close.
Next PLC (L:NXT) declined 4.59% or 330.00 points to end at 6860.00 and Weir
Group PLC (L:WEIR) was down 2.46% or 23.50 points to 930.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock
Exchange by 1248 to 892 and 488 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 0.34% or 3.70 to $1078.90
a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in
February fell 1.63% or 0.60 to hit $36.16 a barrel, while the February Brent
oil contract fell 2.08% or 0.78 to trade at $36.45 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.4653, while EUR/GBP fell 0.47%
to 0.7326.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.63% at 99.56.
