DSE three day's running for stock fall

Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) general index lost 164.07 points or 3.02 percent to close at 5253.47 points.

Shares and mutual funds worth Tk 5.38 billion changed hands with losers heavily outnumbering gainers 245 to 12. Prices of five issues remained unchanged at their opening rates.

The benchmark index had lost 128.48 points or 2.37 percent to 5289.05 points with an hour of trading left.

After an hour of trading, the DGEN had lost 47.99 points or 0.88 percent to slip to 5369.55 points. It had stood at 5323.56 points with a fall of 93.98 points or 1.73 percent at 1pm.

The DSE general index dipped following seesaw movement all through on Sunday.

The DGEN lost 49.45 points or 0.90 percent to close at 5417.54 points on the first trading day of the week. The turnover was Tk 6.15 billion.

Thursday's trading on the DSE had ended with a fall of 16.55 points or 0.30 percent in the DGEN to stand at 5466.99 points. The turnover had been Tk 6.78 billion.

The total turnover in the last week rose along with the benchmark index.

The average turnover last week was Tk 6.91 billion, 48 percent higher than previous week's turnover while the number of traded issues rose 67 percent.

The DSE general index gained a total of 209 points or 3.98 percent last week.

Stocks analysts think the rise in turnover and share prices is a sign that investors' confidence in the capital market has returned.
