Dhaka stocks slip |
The benchmark Dhaka Stock Exchange index dipped following seesaw movement all through on Sunday.
DGEN lost 49.45 points or 0.90 percent to close at 5417.54 points on the first trading day of the week.
Shares worth Tk 6.15 billion changed hands with prices of 97 issues advancing, 154 declining and 12 remaining unchanged.
The key index had gained around 12 points in the first five minutes of trading but slipped into the red zone after another five minutes of trading. The index bounced back afterwards and gained 14.93 points or 0.27 percent to stand at 5481.93 points at 1:05pm.
After around an hour, it had slipped to 5464.53 points with a loss of 2.46 points or 0.04 percent and continued to drop.
Thursday's trading on the DSE had ended with a fall of 16.55 points or 0.30 percent in the DGEN to stand at 5466.99 points. The turnover had been Tk 6.78 billion.
The total turnover of last week rose along with the benchmark index.
The average turnover last week was Tk 6.91 billion, 48 percent higher than previous week's turnover while the number of traded issues rose 67 percent.
The DSE general index gained a total of 209 points or 3.98 percent last week.
Stocks analysts think the rise in turnover and share prices is a sign that investors' confidence in the capital market has returned.
