Germany stocks mixed at close of trade; DAX down 0.63%














Germany stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Retail, Technology and Basic Resources sectors led shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Transportation & Logistics and Utilities sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.63%, while the MDAX index declined 0.23%, and the TecDAX index added 1.62%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (DE:DB1Gn), which rose 1.69% or 1.350 points to trade at 81.170 at the close. Meanwhile, Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) added 0.94% or 0.130 points to end at 14.030 and Merck KGAA O.N. (DE:MRCG) was up 0.58% or 0.560 points to 96.730 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn), which fell 4.76% or 1.230 points to trade at 24.595 at the close. Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) declined 2.86% or 4.050 points to end at 137.500 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) was down 2.58% or 0.510 points to 19.255.

The top performers on the MDAX were STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which rose 1.67% to 36.210, Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which was up 1.60% to settle at 59.840 and Duerr AG O.N. (DE:DUEG) which gained 1.19% to close at 80.700.

The worst performers were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (DE:SZUG) which was down 3.32% to 18.190 in late trade, Kloeckner & Co SE NA (DE:KCOGn) which lost 2.76% to settle at 7.856 and Osram Licht (DE:OSRn) which was down 2.27% to 37.923 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which rose 5.45% to 230.200, Software AG O.N. (DE:SOWG) which was up 4.98% to settle at 26.900 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which gained 4.74% to close at 34.360.

The worst performers were QSC AG NA O.N. (DE:QSCG) which was down 3.11% to 1.525 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 1.77% to settle at 11.080 and Kontron AG O.N. (DE:KBCG) which was down 1.39% to 2.900 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 366 to 336 and 24 ended unchanged.

Shares in Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn) rose to all time highs; gaining 0.94% or 0.130 to 14.030. Shares in Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.86% or 4.050 to 137.500. Shares in STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 1.67% or 0.595 to 36.210. Shares in Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) rose to all time highs; gaining 5.45% or 11.900 to 230.200.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 1.82% to 20.51.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.91% or 9.70 to $1053.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.15% or 1.32 to hit $40.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.78% or 1.24 to trade at $43.20 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.59% to 1.0571, while EUR/GBP rose 0.48% to 0.7085.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 100.38.
