France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 0.18%


France stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Foods & Drugs and General Retailers sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 0.18%, while the SBF 120 index fell 0.13%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Lafargeholcim Ltd (PA:LHN), which rose 2.63% or 1.31 points to trade at 51.04 at the close. Meanwhile, Alcatel Lucent SA (PA:ALUA) added 1.98% or 0.075 points to end at 3.855 and Accor SA (PA:ACCP) was up 1.19% or 0.49 points to 41.56 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which fell 8.86% or 0.41 points to trade at 4.21 at the close. Valeo SA (PA:VLOF) declined 2.62% or 3.80 points to end at 141.10 and Air Liquide SA (PA:AIRP) was down 1.59% or 1.75 points to 108.00.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Sartorius Stedim Biotech (PA:STDM) which rose 3.17% to 358.00, Ipsos (PA:ISOS) which was up 2.99% to settle at 20.68 and SES (PA:SESFd) which gained 2.88% to close at 27.30.

The worst performers were Neopost (PA:NPOS) which was down 16.33% to 21.00 in late trade, ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which lost 8.86% to settle at 4.21 and Edenred (PA:EDEN) which was down 2.99% to 18.98 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 377 to 364 and 54 ended unchanged.

Shares in ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.86% or 0.41 to 4.21. Shares in Sartorius Stedim Biotech (PA:STDM) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.17% or 11.00 to 358.00. Shares in ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) fell to 5-year lows; down 8.86% or 0.41 to 4.21.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 2.88% to 22.33.

Gold for February delivery was down 1.29% or 13.70 to $1049.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.70% or 1.55 to hit $40.30 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 3.18% or 1.42 to trade at $43.02 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.67% to 1.0562, while EUR/GBP rose 0.44% to 0.7082.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.58% at 100.46.
