U.K. stocks higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.39%

U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Pharmaceuticals & Biotech, Travel & Leisure and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors led shares higher.

At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.39% to hit a new 3-months high.

The best performers of the session on the bangladeshiiponews.blogspot.com United Kingdom 100 were Merlin Entertainments PLC (L:MERL), which rose 2.41% or 10.00 points to trade at 425.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Shire PLC (L:SHP) added 2.35% or 109.00 points to end at 4745.00 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (L:GSK) was up 2.00% or 27.000 points to 1378.000 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Meggitt PLC (L:MGGT), which fell 3.10% or 12.00 points to trade at 375.00 at the close. Standard Chartered PLC (L:STAN) declined 2.68% or 14.900 points to end at 541.800 and Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR) was down 2.42% or 28.00 points to 1129.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1084 to 1049 and 429 ended unchanged.

Shares in Standard Chartered PLC (L:STAN) fell to 5-year lows; falling 2.68% or 14.900 to 541.800.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.91% or 9.70 to $1053.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.15% or 1.32 to hit $40.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.78% or 1.24 to trade at $43.20 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 1.08% to 1.4919, while EUR/GBP rose 0.49% to 0.7086.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.51% at 100.39.
